REMAKING BRADFORD

We will be looking at two conservation areas within the historic centre of Bradford. Working as groups, you will make detailed drawn records of the existing buildings, study the typical building typologies and develop urban regeneration strategies for one of these areas. Your understanding of the existing architecture will then form the basis for detailed elevational studies of proposals for new insertions within and adjacent to the the existing buildings.

The sites for the project are located in two Conservation Areas located on either side of Bradford city centre, known as Goitside and Little Germany. Both areas contain historic buildings of a substantial urban scale.

Your initial urban analysis and drawn studies of the existing buildings should investigate the conservation area as a whole. This will enable you to gain a better understanding of the particular building typologies that are prevalent in each of the areas. You will also gain an understanding of the the reasons behind their particular form and type of construction.
